Martial arts gear is available in many different styles, from many different brands. When it comes to uniforms, it is important to take extra care in purchase. Along with different sizes, different brands will provide varying fits. Clothing should be comfortable as well as non-restrictive.

The different types of martial arts gear vary in their specificity. Some items are useful for all styles. Others may be designed more specifically. For instance, karate and judo will have their own uniforms, known as karategi and judogi respectively.

It is important to remember that particular schools may require particular martial arts gear. These may extend beyond styles. Sometimes, a school will prefer its students to wear specific brands and colors for image.
