Martial Arts Belts
A martial arts belt, like the rest of the uniform, deserves
proper care. It is important to remember that these items are very capable
of shrinking in hot water. This is especially true during their first
wash. It is also particularly true when they are composed primarily
of cotton.
Cold water is better to use when washing a martial arts belt. This
will greatly reduce shrinking of the whole uniform in general. They
should also be dried cautiously. Harsher drying techniques can easily
shrink uniforms and belts to an unwearable, small fit.
It is also important to be wary of bleach when cleaning a martial arts
belt. This can fade the important, rank-signifying color of a belt.
In addition to this, it will often weaken the material of a uniform.
This makes rips and wear much more common.
